Every dive pays 500 Plankton, and your first dive ever pays double. Dive again the next day for +2% per consecutive day, up to +20%: the streak wants a dive a day, so it rewards holders with whales to spare. Hold just one and the daily puzzle pays a streak you never have to burn for.
Before the dive, pick up to 2 of the whale's five traits to keep. They land in your Relics inventory and stay there. Applying them is not open yet, so for now a Relic is a keepsake of the whale that carried it.
Putting a Relic on another whale you own is not open yet. It rewrites the whale's traits, and drawing the result needs the artist's layer art, which we do not have. The rules are written and the prices are set (150-600 Plankton by trait rarity, same slot only, one per whale per 1h); the day the art lands, the Lab opens with every Relic you kept still in it.

Yes. When you apply a Relic in the Lab, the whale's metadata is rewritten and OpenSea is refreshed automatically. Same slot only (Head→Head), a 1h cooldown per whale, and no two whales can end up with an identical 5-trait set. Applying a Relic spends it.
No. Balances carry over into the next season - no reset, no haircut, no forced conversion. What you earned is yours. A new season brings new rungs and new goods, never a currency event.
The four 1/1s (#1 whacky no1, #1000 Whoker, #2068 Whalien and #10000 Molten whale) can never dive and can never be edited. They're the pod's crown jewels.
